BROKEN CRAYONS - HOW TO MAKE NEW ONES

It pretty much takes a matter of minutes from opening a new set of crayons that some if not most of them will be broken up, especially with a bonkers 2 year old. But even the smallest pieces of broken crayon can be kept and used to make into new crayons. It is very easy and is even something you can do with your kids.

So here's how you do it...

All you need is some broken crayons, a silicone mold and a microwave.

Pop the broken crayons into the mold and pop it into the microwave. The length of time you put the crayon into the microwave for depends on the crayons and the microwave itself. Some crayons can be pretty stubborn, especially the ones you get from a restaurant in those little packets which is what I used here. For the first time you do it, pop them in on full temp for 4 mins and see how they do. If they havent melted pop them back in.  These ones were in for 8 mins...

Afterwards, pop them in the fridge until they are hard i.e. for about an hour and then simply pop them out of the mold...hey presto you have a cute new crayon.

You will probably find that these last much longer than the original ones and if you mix up the colours like we did, it adds a lot of fun for the little monsters when they discover the crayon changes colour as they draw!

They also make great presents...for Valentine's Day we made some rose crayons for the kids at my son's nursery. They were thrilled.

Have fun!
